Brief

‘In the Moment’

There are ‘moments’ of imagery and forms that are created from natural structures, bubbles and cells, leafs and coral that are all of a temporary nature. To express these stimuli as momentary objects, I will create my visual research based on a collection of shadows and prints that represent the passing scene that has just been visually present.
I am going to look at the haute couture, spring 15 catwalk collection by Alexis Mabillie. From the inspiration of this collection I would like to represent my concept through the contrast of heavy and light yarns. This could show the passing of the moment, and delicacy of light yarn could represent temporariness. This made me consider how a surface area changes state momentarily; Mabillie’s collection has provided proposals on how I could create this effect.
I have taken inspiration from Pringle of Scotland as to how I could create the affect of delicate contrasted with heavy in a knitted garment.
My collection is for women’s wear couture knitwear Spring 2015. The colour palette will be mainly neutrals with moments of colour to break it up and to give the affect of layers and depth. The samples will be mainly composed of light mercerised cottons, so the samples appear delicate. Heavier contrasting yarns will be wool so that not only the weight of the yarn contrasts the cotton, but also the matt finish of the wool will complement the sheen of the mercerised cotton.
During this assignment I will also complete a live brief. I have chosen the ‘Branding’ brief, where I will make a minimum of six samples for my chosen brand. My samples are going to be created in an Alexander McQueen style for that brand, and my concept for this brief is superstition. I am going to base my samples on the visual research of magpies and folklore that surrounds the animal.
